She has long range damage (fireballs) that makes "standing close together and not following her to avoid making openings" bad, but if you try to follow her (with the various speeds/mobility abilities that the PC have), you will eventually leave someone alone and Zariel will not ignore that.Īlso, the book as written has (once again) the worst possible idea. And it will create weaknesses in their ranks, leaving vulnerable people easy to be caught.

Have her fly around and tp all the time to keep the party wasting ressources and actions just to catch up. She SHOULD absolutely play divide and conquer. She has incredibly high mobility (in my mind, that's her most important asset, even more than her damage, stats or defensive abilities). She also have a priority target on the sword's wielder, but won't spend too much time focusing on a tank if it's not worth it (for instance if half the party deals radiant damage somehow, she knows she won't get to regen even if she drops the sword's wielder so it's not that much worth to focus him first). She'll go for the squishies (healers especially) and focus fire on them till they drop dead. If they try to, they have the sword of Zariel which is honestly pretty much the best thing to counter her (flying speed to match hers, radiant damage, etc etc.)ĭo play Zariel as a war general that is clever and knows who to focus first. The Zariel the party will be facing is weakened. Even if Lulu and Olanthius won't fight to kill her (but rather, to get her to stop being stupid), that's something important. That means that a 4-PC party can actually be 6-7 fighting creatures against a single Zariel. And some of them are pretty damn powerful (Olanthius is CR 17, if he comes with the party !!). She is not going to flee unless she is REALLY in trouble, and that creates a (small) window of opportunity. She knows she is incredibly strong, and is super angry (all the time, at every one). But at the same time, even if Zariel is super clever, she is the very definition of Ubris.

#PLANESHIFT VERSION OF SLAY ART FULL#
Add in a LOT of damage, a great amount of resistances, incredibly high stats, legendary resistances, and you get something that basically can't be killed in even 4-5 rounds and can full heal super fast, while being able to full kill someone in 1 or 2 turns. She can kite (teleport+fly) all day long even the fastest monk, and she can heal to full life in a few minutes. Zariel, if played extremely cleverly and as great of a tactician as you should expect of her, is invincible. Action economy is HUGE and even if she is much stronger, she can get in trouble in the bad situation. Sure she is in the middle of huge fight, but the book does say that other demons and devils avoid fighting near her since she creates so much destruction.
